She meets up with another fugitive, Bruce, who believes there is a milk conspiracy. They hit the road for Montana in search of the mysterious Rufus, a man they believe can provide them with new identities.

Eight year old Wendy decides that Peter is the boy for her, then proceeds to “stalk” him, reinventing herself and reappearing in his life each time he moves on. She follows him into a new neighborhood, through college, homelessness, even incarceration–until her own crisis reverses their relationship.
